  • Do you like quiet time? Do you like greeting individuals? Do you like hearing the sounds of children laughing and maybe even crying a little bit?  Hazel Park Learning Center is looking for volunteers in the morning (Monday, Wednesday, and/or Friday 6:30 – 9:00 a.m.) or afternoon (Monday through Friday 3:30 – 6:00 p.m.) to open doors for families at drop off and pick up times. Security is a priority. It would help the HPLC staff when the doorbell rings to know that someone is there letting in family members in a timely and safe fashion. If you are interested; and are unable to work the entire time, that’s okay too. We will gladly accommodate. Let Rev. Sara know if you are interested or have any questions.

The outreach board is a part of the Sheridan Story for the 2nd year, below is a list of dates that HPUCC is responsible for delivering weekend food to kids at Eastern Heights Elementary, if you’re interested in volunteering for one of these days (11/9,11/21, 12/14) please contact Jean Verby.

The Trustees are busy getting a budget together. There will be a budget info meeting on Sunday, October 28 after worship.  This is a time to see numbers, ask questions, work out any kinks before the annual meeting slated for Sunday, November 11. Please join us!

It’s that time of year where we begin to think about Advent, Hanging of the Greens and Christmas - which means Poinsettias!  During the next four weeks we are taking orders for your Christmas poinsettias. These flowers will be placed on the Altar every Sunday morning during Advent. After the Christmas Eve service you are able take your poinsettia home. Please fill out the order form in the bulletin and return with your payment to Julie in the office.

We received a $5200 from the St. Paul Family Resource Foundation. This grant will help us with accessing the resources of the Wilder Foundation. The Wilder Foundation will be working collaboratively with us as we dive into the issues of “aging well” in our adult education series. Topics that will be discussed will be experiences of caregiving, memory care decisions, grief and loss, and housing options (home vs. care facility). We will also nurture our “Called to Care” program by giving it some fresh resources. Our first adult education time will be Sunday, November 4 with a focus on caregiving.  Any questions, please see Rev. Sara.

Mark your calendars for the ‘Charlie Russell’ volunteer appreciation Sunday, November 11. This is our chance to celebrate you – the volunteers and members of Hazel Park UCC for your ministry and support of all that Hazel Park UCC offers. After worship, Julie, Asako, and Rev. Sara will host coffee hour! This is also in conjunction with our Annual meeting.

It’s time to clean out the closets! We are collecting gently used or new adult and children’s coats. Donations will be delivered to Joseph’s Coat in St. Paul. Thank you for your generosity.

Outside Clean-up day at church on Saturday, October 27 from 9 – noon. Bring your gloves – there is plenty to do!  Thank you!
